The first stitch we are going to learn this week is the crocodile stitch, I had a nightmare trying to learn this stitch. Every time I tried to find a tutorial on the stitch (no patterns just the stitch only) everyone was charging for it. The same ultimately went for any patterns however I did eventually figure this one out and found some free patterns for you all to practice on.
Firstly here is the tutorial:
Chain in multiples of 3 your desired length for example 30 DC in the 3rd chain from hook *Ch 2, Skip the next 2 ch, 2 DC* repeat until the end of the chain Ch 1. Without turning work over, turn your work 90 degrees Work 5 DC in the first DC Ch 1 5 DC in the second DC. This is your first scale. Skip next set of 2 DC’s. repeat bold instructions in the 3rd set of 2 DC’s. Skip next set of 2 DC’s. repeat bold instructions in the 5th set of 2 DC’s. Continue to the end of the row. Ch 2, turn work over. 2 DC into center of the last Scale you crocheted. Ch 2. 2 DC between the last 2 Scales you crocheted. Ch 2. Continue to the end of the row. Ch 1. Turn work over. Crochet the bold instructions into the first set of 2 DC’s. Skip 2nd set of DC’s, crochet the bold instructions into the 3rd set of DC’s and continue to the end of the row.
Free Crocodile Stitch Patterns:
Owl – I like this pattern as the body is a shown in a video to get you started and then the rest is a written pattern. Its also done in a round and left open at the top so you can put things inside it meaning it’s a lot more versatile in its uses. Plus its just so cute!
Flower – This is a free ravelry pattern ( you will need to create a free account to view it… its worth it though as ravelry have lots of great free patterns) I like that’s it’s a twist on the normal flowers you see and has 3 steps – how refreshingly simple!
I would love to hear how you all get on with this stitch so please let me know, and even better show me your work! If you have made something with this stitch or do as a result of this tutorial please post a pic for me 😀
